Quarterlight is a type of film work
which falls between the music video and the narrative. It
is conceived as the 'EP' film - a film consisting of a set
of 4 or 5 visual montages which span 4 or 5 pieces of music
by a particular musician, normally working in the area of
electronic music, in this case 'Chequerboard'. Each sequence
has an overall geography that corresponds to a more conventional
narrative structure - recently this approach has also included
live mixing or 'VJ-ing'.
The 'geography' of Quarterlight corresponds
to simple physical divides - East / West, over the Arctic.
It provides a prototype for the more elaborate 'Ouroboros:
Ocean Dreams'
